Our story

A name made in 1975, carried forward here

In 1975, Gil Ferrer opened the original Gil Ferrer Salon on Madison Avenue in New York, and built a reputation for innovation that reached far beyond it. That salon closed its doors during the pandemic.

New York magazine named that Madison Avenue salon a Critics’ Pick, and quoted Gil on how he worked: “Ask not what you can do for your hair, but what your hair can do for you.” It is where the line at the top of this page comes from.

This one is Marisa’s — a separate business. Gil’s wife started it, owns it, and you will find her here most days, behind the chair. She brought his standards with her, and Gil consults with the team.

For over twenty years, this family-run salon has been part of the Hamptons, at Bridgehampton Commons on Montauk Highway — the same chair, the same hands, season after season.

The salon is in its next chapter. Marisa is still behind the chair. The day-to-day running of the place — the diary, the desk, the floor — now sits with our new salon manager, a member of the Ferrer family, who is bringing the salon into a new century: booking that shows real openings around the clock, a front desk that answers at any hour, and a room that keeps getting better. The standard is still the one Gil Ferrer set, and the front desk is the quickest way to reach us about anything at all.
